Hermes Agent hits 188K GitHub stars; Skills Hub surpasses 90,000 skills
jumped from 165,000 to 188,781 in just two weeks, while the number of community-built skills (add-on modules that extend what the agent can do) exploded from 310 to over 90,000 across 12 registries. firm Dealroom has officially named it the fastest-growing open-source agent framework of 2026. The v0.16.0 'Surface Release' on June 5 introduced a native desktop app for macOS, Windows, and Linux, eliminating the need to configure — users can now download and start immediately.
The Skills Hub refreshes automatically twice a day; every installed skill is versioned and goes through an automated quality check by a built-in tool called the Curator. A maturing plugin architecture allowed external projects like hermes-lcm — which handles without data loss using a task-flow graph — to integrate within a week. A loop powered by DSPy and GEPA now lets Hermes upgrade its own skills automatically.
Two community awesome-lists and Hermes Atlas (mapping 100+ tools with live data) have emerged to make skill discovery much easier.
