DevCleaner is a free macOS menu bar app made by a solo developer in Prague. It finds developer caches and old simulator files left by tools such as Xcode, Gradle, npm, cargo, and Homebrew, then helps clear disk space in one click. The launch version scans 22 toolchains and also covers AI apps such as Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Windsurf, Ollama, and LM Studio.
On the developer’s own Mac, Cursor alone was using 1.3 GB of cache space. Each item is marked Safe, Warning, or Danger so people can judge what to delete. The app also includes auto-updates through Sparkle, background scanning, and an opt-in auto-clean feature with age filters.
A public counter sends only one anonymous number after each cleanup, the number of bytes freed, with no IDs, file paths, or stored IP addresses, and it can be turned off in settings. A related menu bar tool, Headroom, points to the same need: it shows Claude Code’s 5-hour session limit and 7-day weekly limit as live percentages, with colors changing at 70% and 90%, so work is less likely to stop without warning.
