Built a time-tracking skill for Claude Code after it became my main work tool
A developer who now does nearly everything inside Claude Code realized they had no way to see where their time was actually going, so they built a custom time-tracking skill directly inside the tool. It's a concrete example of AI coding tools becoming the primary workspace — not just a helper.
Claude Code is an AI-powered coding assistant that can handle a wide range of tasks beyond just writing code. As this developer shifted more and more of their daily work into Claude Code, standard time-tracking apps stopped being useful — they couldn't capture what was happening inside an AI tool.
To fix this, the developer built a 'skill' — a custom add-on — within Claude Code itself to log and surface where time was being spent. This shows a growing trend: for some developers, AI tools are no longer a side utility but the actual environment they live in, to the point of building productivity tooling inside them.
Key points

- Standard time-tracking apps can't see activity inside AI tools
- Claude Code's skill system lets you build custom add-ons, including time trackers
- This is an early example of developers managing productivity from within their AI tool
